At this age, children have a good understanding of the spatial location of objects around them and themselves (in front of, behind, above and below). They also better understand some object attributes such as size, shape and color. They may not yet say the name of many of these attributes, but they can separate objects into two groups based on common characteristics.

As their vocabulary continues to grow, it becomes increasingly common to hear them speak 2 and 3-word phrases. Their ability to pronounce words more clearly also continues to improve, allowing them to be better understood by adults and loved ones other than their parents.

They accept temporary separations more easily (decreased separation anxiety) and are open to being around other children for longer periods of time, though still not interacting with them. Occasionally, they will test your limits and the rules by engaging in challenging behaviors.

They can jump down from very low heights and can squat for longer periods of time.
